Green Day goes #1

After releasing their album last Friday and only having three days before the next week’s billboard charts were released, Green Day still managed to grab the number one spot by selling 214,000 copies of their new album 21st Century Breakdown.

This is the band’s second consecutive number one album after 2004′s American Idiot. To be fair, however, the Bay-Area punks didn’t have a lot of competition for the coveted number one spot. They were up against Hannah Montana: The Soundtrack, rapper Cam’ron’s The Fame, and albums from Lady Gaga and Rascal Flatts.

Green Day have already played a few shows in NYC at the Bowery Ballroom and Webster Hall to promote the new album and they’ll be playing on Good Morning America on May 22nd. Their tour officially kicks off on July 3rd in Seattle, WA.
