Green Day “No Wal-Mart”

In an age where retail stores are becoming exclusive distributors of albums (Wal-Mart had AC/DC and The Eagles, Best Buy had Guns N’ Roses and soon Chickenfoot) there is a band that is not dealing with these behemoths of bargains.

Green Day recently had their album turned away from Wal-Mart shelves because, according to frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, the company wanted them to censor their album 21st Century Breakdown. “They want artists to censor their records in order to be carried in there,” Armstrong said. “We just said no. We’ve never done it before. You feel like you’re in 1953 or something.”

Wal-Mart is one of the nation’s leading music distributors but not selling their album hasn’t stopped Green Day from going to the top of the billboard charts.

I know it’s the second Green Day story today. But when you’re currently America’s biggest rock band you get a little more attention for the time being.
