Pearl Jam selling new album through Target

It was recently confirmed, via Billboard, that Pearl Jam will be releasing their new album without a label “but a consortium of partners, including Target as the “big box” retail partner.”

This news broke after music blog antiquiet broke a story about Pearl Jam shooting a Cameron Crowe directed commercial for Target where the band played a new song called “The Fixer”. The shoot took place in Seattle where about 300 people were invited to be in the crowd as the band played the song over and over.

As for the album, which is rumored to be called Backspacer, it will be sold exclusively at Target. However since the band is no longer affiliated with a label, you’ll also be able to buy it online through digital retailers as well as the band’s website. The band’s manager Kelly Curtis spoke about the Target partnership. “I make decisions around the band’s business that are consistent with their overall philosophy”, Curtis said. “Which is to sell music in a way that’s accessible and affordable to their fans, on every distribution platform that their fans access music, and in a way that takes care of the little guys.”

Pearl Jam is expected to perform their new song on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien this evening so set your DVR’s.
