Yusuf Islam wants to have tea with Coldplay

Coldplay has been getting a lof of flack over their song “Viva La Vida”. There’s still a lawsuit from Joe Satriani claiming they ripped off his song “If I Could Fly” and for a while it looked like Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, was ready to jump on the lawsuit train. But Islam wants Coldplay to know that all is forgiven.
Islam stated a few weeks ago that Coldplay stole from his song “Foreigner Suite” to create the melody for “Viva La Vida”. But now Islam has said that it’s all water under the bridge. “I don’t want them to think I am angry with them. I’d love to sit down and have a cup of tea with them and let them know it’s okay.”
The Daily Express (via Pitchfork) reported that Islam wants to forgive Coldplay even though he stands by his original statement. “I stand by what I said. They did copy my song but I don’t think they did it on purpose. I have even copied myself without even knowing I have done it. I’ll write down what I think is a good melody and realise it’s the same as something I have already done.”
Come on, Satriani. Let bygones be bygones. You got the Chickenfoot thing goin’ on and that seems to be doing well. Shake hands with Chris Martin and let’s be done with all this nonsense.
