Melissa Auf der Maur reacts to the Hole reunion

Last week the RiO!B reported on Courtney Love’s new Hole album, Nobody’s Daughter, and that she was recruiting former Hole bassist Melissa Auf der Maur to join her on the upcoming tour. And everyone began rejoicing…except for Auf der Maur. Why? Because she had no idea there was going to be a reunion tour.
She recently spoke to ExploreMusic about Courtney, the new album and how she got involved. “I don’t know what to say about [the situation]. I’m a little confused as to what the plan with that is. All I can tell you is that I like singing ooos, ahs, and la-la-las behind her voice.”
It turns out that Love didn’t contact Auf der Maur to be on the new album but producer Michael Beinhorn (who produced 1998′s Celebrity Skin) gave her a call. “He called me and asked me if I would sing on [Courtney’s] new solo record—which is what I understood it was. And I said ‘Yes’ because I enjoy working with him and do….Well, she and I have a history of making music together and I’m happy to visit her again in the future.”
As for the tour itself, Auf der Maur is still a bit skeptical about the entire setup. “I think you can’t take a Hole reunion thing that lightly. It’s gonna take a little more organizing than just ‘I’ll come and sing some backups and then we got Hole.’” But Auf der Maur still has nothing but kind words about Courtney Love. “All I can tell you is that I love Courtney to bits. She’s a nutbag and I really do care about her. She’s like a long-lost sister to me.”
Nobody’s Daughter is expected to come out late this year or early 2010.
