This year’s Virgin Mobile Festival is FREE!

While the country is currently in the throes of a recession, there are some in the music industry that are trying to make it easier for the fans so we can still go to the big summer festivals. Bonnaroo had a recession special where you could pay for tickets in $50 installments and that was nice. But the Virgin Mobile Festival has decided to one up everybody by making themselves the Virgin Mobile FreeFest. That’s right! This festival is free!
According to Billboard.com, organizers of the festival will be giving away 35,000 tickets to the show which will be held on August 30th at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. And for a free show, the line-up is quite expensive.
Blink-182 and Weezer will be headlining the event while other bands like St. Vincent, Girl Talk, Franz Ferdinand, Jet, The National, Holy Fuck, The Hold Steady, Taking Back Sunday and more will perform on the festival’s two stages and dance tent.
Tickets go on sale on June 27th on ticketmaster.com but if you’re a Virgin Mobile customer then you’ll receive an email which will get you first crack at the tix between June 25-26. Also if you pick up your tickets at the Merriweather Post Pavilion or the 9:30 club in Washington D.C. then Ticketmaster will waive their convenience fees.
While the tickets to the event are free, organizers are asking that you donate $5 to youth homeless shelters by texting FREEFEST to 20222 on your mobile phone. Also if you complete 13 hours of community service at designated homeless shelters around the country, you’ll be invited to hang out in the VIP section at the festival.
