Wavves – No Hope Kids

So the indie-rock band Wavves has been talked about quite a bit on this blog o’ mine. Starting with their breakdown in Barcelona (fights with his drummer and dodging beer bottles) and followed by lead singer Nathan’s apology to fans for his excessive use of drugs mixed with alcohol.

Pitchfork recently had a talk with the young man and asked his feelings on what has occurred to him over the last month. On the topic of what happened in Barcelona? “I guess I just got way too fucked up. That was basically the story. It was never anything except just a couple of bad decisions, and I don’t know. It is what it is.”

How about canceling the rest of their European tour? “Me and Ryan (the drummer) were really not getting along, and that was mainly it, but that sort of stuff is kind of something I’d prefer not to get into.”

Final thoughts on all the coverage of your actions in Barcelona? “If people think that I’m not going to fuck up, then they’re wrong. And if they think this is like the last time I’m going to fuck up, they’re wrong too. Because I’m young. I’m kinda stupid. I’m human.”

Wavves are playing in NYC at the Bowery Ballroom on July 15 and at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago on July 18th. Check out the video for their song “No Hope Kids” up top.
