WBCN says bye-bye to Boston

If you happen to live in Boston and you’ve been a fan of WBCN, the radio station known as “The Rock of Boston”, then get ready to say your goodbyes.
According to Billboard.biz, on August 13th WBCN will leave the airwaves and become a Top 40 station. The station has been broadcasting for 41 years and has been the leading rock radio station in Boston. That’s not to say it didn’t have competition from rival stations WAAF and WFNX but BCN managed to have a reputation in the city as the best station to hear rock music on.
This is sadly a trend that is happening across the country. Here in NYC, 92.3 K-Rock was taken off the air to also become a Top 40 station. Thankfully WRXP is picking up the slack but it still stings when you see something you’ve grown up with simply go away. If you are a rock fan and still a fan of listening to your radio in your car then may I recommend you get Sirius/XM. Commercial-free music stations, every genre of rock music you could want and the DJ’s aren’t as annoying.
It’s a sad time, Beantown. Listen to BCN as much as you can before it goes bubblegum.
