Coldplay covers Beastie Boys

If anyone went to the All Points West festival this weekend in Jersey City, NJ then you got, in addition to loads of great bands, something you didn’t pay or ask for. Mud. Lots and lots and lots of mud. Since the summer in the Garden State has been somewhat of a wet one, we Jersey residents expected to have our parade rained on. But it rained so much on the final day of the festival that doors didn’t open til four hours later and bands had to cancel sets in order to accommodate the time change.

However, if you went to APW on Sunday to catch Coldplay’s set then you didn’t miss a thing. They put on a show like their tour had just started even though they’re winding down their tour cycle. And, just like the band’s good friend Jay-Z, they decided to pay a tribute to the original headlining act of Friday night’s APW lineup the Beastie Boys

Up top, you can see a video of Chris Martin sitting at his piano playing a lovely tribute to the Beasties as he tickled the ivory keys and turned “Fight For Your Right (To Party)” into a moving ballad. It’s actually not that bad. I mean we’d much prefer the original but I wouldn’t expect Chris Martin to sling his pants a bit lower and start rhyming in a high-pitched Brooklyn accent so we’ll take this.
