The Decemberists debut new songs at Newport Folk Festival

Amidst all the rock music festivals that take place in the summer another festival manages to stand out among all the rest and still have an impact. Maybe because it’s been around for years and has managed to get many of the bands in the indie-rock scene to come and play to it’s crowd. It’s the Newport Folk Festival and it’s where The Decemberists debuted two brand new songs.

Colin Meloy and his merry band played a song called “Down by the Water” which features Meloy on the harmonica. The other song was described by Meloy as an “attempt at a copper-mining song about Butte, Montana.”

You can check out both songs below and if you like ‘em so much that you want them in your collection then you can head on over to You Ain’t No Picasso and make them your own. The mp3′s are the ones that were played live at the festival and the quality is actually great. Enjoy!
