Radiohead not releasing albums

I know what you thought when you first read that headline. “WTF?! This can’t be real! Why would he even write something like that?” Calm down, scrappy. Keep reading before you freak out.
In an interview with The Believer magazine (via Pitchfork), lead singer Thom Yorke talked about the band not wanting to release full-length albums anymore. “I mean, it’s just become a real drag. It worked with In Rainbows because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we’ve all said that we can’t possibly dive into that again. It’ll kill us. I mean, obviously, there’s still something great about the album. It’s just, for us, right now, we need to get away from it a bit.”
As for what the future holds for Yorke and the rest of Radiohead? Here’s one idea. Orchestral pieces. “Jonny [Greenwood] and I have talked about sitting down and writing songs for orchestra and orchestrating it fully and just doing it like that and then doing a live take of it and that’s it – finished.”
Ultimately, Thom wants the band to start releasing EP’s and singles rather than full albums. I’ve heard him say this since after Hail To The Thief was released but apparently he means it this time. “None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off,” he said.
So is this contradicting what bassist Colin Greenwood said a few months ago when he stated that the band was already in the studio working on the next record? Only time will tell. But I’m sure that whatever the boys of Oxford release, it’ll be showered with praise from everyone (including me). Hey I’ll be critical if it’s necessary but it’s kinda difficult when they’re my number one faves. Don’t let us down, guys!
