Phil Selway can sing

When you think about the band Radiohead, the first people that come to mind are usually Thom Yorke and the Jonny Greenwood. While all the members of the band are amazing, those two are at the forefront of it all. So how surprised was I when drummer Phil Selway stepped out from behind the kit and made his way to the mic with a guitar? Pleasantly surprised.

Selway wrote two songs for a charity CD called 7 Worlds Collide: The Sun Came Out as part of a “supergroup” that consisted of him, RH guitarist Ed O’Brien, Johnny Marr, Jeff Tweedy, Neil Finn and others. Up top is his song “The Witching Hour” and down below you can check out video of Phil performing his other song “The Ties That Bind Us”. Phil is definitely the singer/songwriter of the group. Soft vocals. Lightly picking the guitar. Singing romantic lyrics. Man I hope he doesn’t go emo anytime soon.

It’s also been reported by Spinner that Phil will be working on his solo album this fall. 7 Worlds Collide: The Sun Came Out will hit stores on September 29th in the U.S.
