R.I.P. DJ AM 1973 – 2009

Yesterday was a sad day in music. Celebrity DJ Adam Goldstein aka DJ AM was found dead in his NYC apartment last night surrounded by prescription pills and a pipe used to smoke drugs out of.

AM made news last year when he survived a plane crash with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. This is what bothers me more than anything. He was an amazing DJ that played gigs all around the world, his mixes were incredible and he played with major artists like Jay-Z and he goes out by overdosing? Never cool.

He just opened up a brand new club in Atlantic City, NJ called Dusk and friends of mine that have gone there said it was an amazing place. I was lucky enough to see AM spin live a few times in the U.S. and Mexico and he always brought a party. It felt like the whole place would move in sync with one another to his beats. The way he would mix rock music with hip-hop into dance beats was so smooth you never heard songs the same way again.

My thoughts and condolences go out to AM’s family and friends. Thanks for the party, DJ AM. We’re gonna miss you.
