Dead By Sunrise – Crawl Back In
I know that Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington had this new side project band, Dead by Sunrise, for a while now but I didn’t want to write anything until I got a decent sampling of their music. Well I got a music video for their lead single “Crawl Back In” from their debut album Out Of Ashes instead. I think I can start writing now.
Dead by Sunrise features Bennington, former Orgy members Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh, and current Julien-K members, Brandon Belsky, Elias Andra, and Anthony “FU” Valcic. If you were looking for this music to be another facet of Linkin Park then you have another thing coming. The music is more rock n’ roll and less digital sampling/hip-hop/rock that has made LP so famous. Chester describes the band as a place where fans can meet the man behind the voice.
“It was just me writing the lyrics this time around, so I was very straight to the point, very forward, and very personal with the lyrics for this record,” Bennington said. “I got to the point where I thought, ‘Okay, it’s time to be real.’”
As for the song “Crawl Back In” it’s not that bad. It’s kind of refreshing to hear Chester use his voice with rock music like on LP’s early album Hybrid Theory and not as the screaming hype-man for Mike Shinoda’s rhymes on every other record. It’s definitely a departure from the epic Transformers songs that he’s been singing which feel more pop than rock these days. Will all the fans gravitate toward Dead by Sunrise? Probably not but it’ll be cool to hear what the music sounds like with Chester fully in charge of the sound.
