Them Crooked Vultures give some answers

For a while now, people have been wondering about the band Them Crooked Vultures which is the psycho brainchild of Josh Homme, John Paul Jones and Dave Grohl. While their live shows are amazing, no one really knows that much about them as far as when an album is coming out, what’s the dynamic of the band, how songs were written and all that. Well recently at Austin City Limits, my boy Johnny Firecloud from the terrific website Antiquiet landed the first ever interview with Josh Homme and got the rest of us some answers.
First off let’s address the issue of when an album is coming out. “We’ve been doing a lot of stuff real kind of secretive, and we actually made a pact to not know when it’s coming out, the band guys,” said Homme. “I’m betting… Well it’s going to be before the end of the year… We kind of have a little running bet on what the date is. And I intend to win that bet, because I’m going to cheat.” He also went on to say that the album’s title will be self-titled.
Homme then addressed the rumor that the band actually got together for the first time in a renaissance style setting. “But then [Dave] has his birthday party at Medieval Times, and of course he sat us (Homme and John Paul Jones) right next to each other. That was the blind date. But he sat in the next row behind us, like looking over (laughing)…But you know, I think it’s fairly common to meet someone from Zeppelin at Medieval Times.”
So between meetings at Medieval Times, trying to figure out when the album is coming out and the type of songs that will be on the new record, it could be safe to say that this album will be in contention for being one of the top albums of 2009 when the RiO!B makes its list at the end of the year.
