Thom Yorke debuts new band at Echoplex last night

Last night in Los Angeles, CA a lucky few people paid quite a bit of money to see a band “rehearse”. But you would too if this band consisted of Thom Yorke, Flea from RHCP, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco.

The Echoplex in L.A. was the spot where Thom’s brand new, unnamed band made their first appearance. Their set consisted of the entire tracklisting of Thom’s solo album The Eraser, the two new Thom Yorke songs “The Hollow Earth” and “Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses” as well as four brand new songs (including a possible new Radiohead tune) plus “Paperbag Writer” which is a Hail To The Thief b-side. For anyone in the crowd that was hoping to hear the song “Hearing Damage” which is Thom’s contribution to the New Moon soundtrack didn’t get it but I’m sure they weren’t complaining.

The set list for the band’s 90 minute show is down below as well a few videos from the performance. Let me just say, first, that while the videos are awesome, L.A. audiences suck. Throughout the performance people were chatting away as if it were just some random cover band onstage. At one point in the night, Thom looked up and addressed the problem. “If you want to have a chat, go fuck off outside, all right?” Needless to say the crowd quieted down. For more vids from the show, see my buddy over at TwentyFourBit.
