Guns N’ Roses fight back

Yesterday we reported on a story that German electronic artist Ulrich Schnauss was suing Guns N’ Roses for allegedly using some of his music in the beginning of their song “Riad N’ The Bedouins” which appears on Chinese Democracy. Today, GNR’s manager Irving Azoff released this statement which I have to applaud. This could be the most elaborate excuse for anything in the history of ever.
“The band believed when the record came out and still believes that there are no unauthorized samples on the track. The snippets of ‘ambient noise’ in question were provided by a member of the album’s production team who has assured us that these few seconds of sound were obtained legitimately. Artists these days can’t read the minds of those they collaborate with and therefore are unfortunately vulnerable to claims like this one. While the band resents the implication that they would ever use another artist’s work improperly and are assessing possible counterclaims, they are confident this situation will be satisfactorily resolved.” (via Idolator)
Man if I could come up with excuses like that I would be King of something. Irving Azoff basically said, to translate from bullshit, that Guns N’ Roses didn’t use any music from any other artists. But if music from an unauthorized source did appear on the album it came from one of the many people who were on the album’s production team and had nothing to do with Axl Rose or the other musicians.
I’m taking bets that this statement will completely let GnR off the hook. Who wants in on this pot?
