Radiohead recording new album this winter

A couple months ago, Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke sat down with The Believer and had this to say about the band making music from now on:
“None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off… I mean, it’s just become a real drag. It worked with In Rainbows because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we’ve all said that we can’t possibly dive into that again. It’ll kill us… I mean, obviously, there’s still something great about the album. It’s just, for us, right now, we need to get away from it a bit.”
Needless to say, a lot of us (myself included) were a bit disturbed by the fact that RH would no longer release albums. Sure we’d still get new music but the experience of going out and grabbing a copy of a new Radiohead LP would be gone for good. Or so we thought.
Turns out our buds at TwentyFourBit dug up an interview that guitarist Ed O’Brien did with NME where he uttered six words that allowed us all to breathe a collective sigh of relief.
“We will be making an album!”
O’Brien also added that “We all like vinyl. That’s not going to go away. I still like CDs as well. I got the Speech Debelle CD the other day—I nearly downloaded it from iTunes, but I thought, ‘No, I want the physical thing.’” And for the icing on this cake? O’Brien said that the band would be getting back together in Oxford this winter to start recording their new album.
So there may be no new album under the tree for me come Christmastime but I’ll have visions of 5 Englishmen making amazing music dancing in my head as I settle down for a long winter’s nap.

[...] Thom Yorke has worked his way back into the blogosphere by simply existing yet again and it’s my job to tell you what he’s been up to. Rolling Stone recently spoke with the Radiohead frontman/climate activist about a few things. First off it’s been announced that he is playing the Coachella festival but some want to know what the “????” after his name on the festival poster stand for. Turns out that “Thom Yorke????” stands for his band with RHCP bassist Flea, producer Nigel Godrich, Mauro Refosco and Joey Waronker. This was the same band that played a few gigs in Los Angeles last summer. “The Eraser band that I got together, we’re going to do something, hopefully in April (referring to Coachella), but I think that’s just more gigs,” Yorke said. So that answers that question but what about the day job a.k.a Radiohead? “Radiohead is still doing stuff. In fact, we’re starting another session for a month in two days,” said Yorke. “My biggest trouble at the moment is trying to keep up, but I prefer it that way.” Recently, Thom co-hosted a radio show on BBC Radio 1 with Gilles Peterson and DJed a set that included acts like Clinic, Can, MF Doom and jazz legends Charles Mingus and Sun Ra. You can listen to that radio show right over here. So it seems that Thom is trying to stay as busy as possible these days. Don’t burn out on us, man. A lot of people are waiting for that new RH record that’s supposed to come out this year. [...]
