Peter Gabriel covers Radiohead, other artists

If you thought Peter Gabriel was just that guy from Genesis who covered a Vampire Weekend song with Hot Chip then it’s time for you to listen up. Gabriel, the former lead singer of Genesis, will be releasing an album where he covers artists including Radiohead, David Bowie and more.
The album, entitled Scratch My Back, is described as “song swap(s) with some of the world’s most legendary artists,” according to producer John Metcalfe in an interview with The Guardian (via TwentyFourBit). The album will feature Gabriel recording songs like Bowie’s “Heroes”, Radiohead’s “Street Spirit”, Arcade Fire’s “My Body is a Cage” and others. The full tracklisting is down below.
According to Metcalfe, the album won’t have the regular instruments such as guitar or bass on the album. “”The album will be acoustic, using only orchestral instruments and range in size from sparse chamber music to a much fuller orchestral sound.” The record is expected to come out in early 2010. This could be an interesting listen. What would be more interesting is which of the bands on this album cover the song he did with Randy Newman for the movie WALL-E.
1 – “Heroes” – David Bowie
2 – “Street Spirit” – Radiohead
3 – “The Book of Love” – Magnetic Fields
4 – “Flume” – Bon Iver
5 – “My Body Is a Cage” – Arcade Fire
6 – “Listening Wind” – Talking Heads
7 – “I Think It’s Going to Rain Today” – Randy Newman
8 – “Après Moi” – Regina Spektor or Eartha Kitt
9 – “Waterloo Sunset” – The Kinks
10 – “The Boy in the Bubble” – Paul Simon
11 – “The Power of the Heart” – Lou Reed
12 – “Philadelphia” – Neil Young
13 – “Mirrorball” – Elbow
