Bob Dylan – Must Be Santa

For the last few months, many of the blogs have been talking about the absurdity/amazingness/confusion that is Bob Dylan’s Christmas album Christmas In The Heart. I stayed away from covering it because having not heard the album I felt I couldn’t give it a fair criticism. But having watched the video for the song “Must Be Santa” I now can summarize my criticism with the appropriate acronym: WTF?
Sadly the video for the song isn’t embeddable otherwise I’d tell you to watch it up top but instead you’ll have to head over here for your dose of Dylan’s brand of Christmas cheer. Dylan himself looks like the devil causing mischief with the disguise of a yuletide party. Sporting long hair, a cigarette and a red candle, Dylan leads the partygoers through a melodic laundry list of characteristics that make up Santa Claus.
The whole video is just insane. From a man escaping from the house to name checking former presidents, I honestly thought for a bit that the whole vid was a deleted scene from the upcoming film The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus or just a wacky short crafted from the mind of Terry Gilliam. Must have been the whole Dylan/devil concept I referred to earlier.
In any case go watch it. Also, if you’re interested, Christmas In The Heart is in stores now. Go spread some holiday cheer.
