Vampire Weekend – Cousins

I think we’ve found Vampire Weekend’s new “A-Punk”. Behold the video for their brand new song “Cousins” from their upcoming album Contra which hits stores on January 12, 2010.

The song is only two and a half minutes long so for a video that short to work it can only be one thing. Sporadic. VW pulls off what could be the greatest musical YouTube clip ever. It has jump cuts, all the members banging on random instruments, it’s shot in front of a green screen and it’s probably going to go viral real soon.

As for the song itself, it’s definitely not the laid back “Horchata”. It’s guitars are blazing fast, lead singer Ezra Koenig is yelping and according to multi-instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij, “It’s got probably the most demanding bass part Chris [Baio] has wrote for himself, and probably the most demanding drum part Chris Tomson ever did for himself. So it’s a demanding song.”

You’re probably gonna bounce around to this song all day so why not have a visual to go with it? Check it out up top.
