RZA makes music with a Chili Pepper

The gap between hip-hop and rock music gets a bit smaller with this piece of news. Turns out that Wu-Tang member RZA has been hanging out with Red Hot Chili Pepper guitarist John Frusciante a bit and has even jammed with the funk-rock axeman.

MTV spoke to RZA where he revealed that he and John have sat down and created music together. “I go to [Frusciante's] house a lot and make music with him,” said RZA. “We just make music. I’ve made 100 songs this year, and probably nobody won’t hear them but us who made it.”

The RZA is no stranger to rock music however. He was a part of the recently released rock/hip-hop collaboration called Blakroc where other artists including Ludacris, Jim Jones, Mos Def and others rapped over music done by blues-rock band the Black Keys. “I went through, we had a good vibe, did a little smoking. We just did music. It’s coming out. I don’t know who got paid, who did what. I got nothing. It’s nothing for me. It’s an expression of art. It feels good to do it that way. That’s how we started out.”

So between RZA hanging out with Frusciante (we want to hear those songs!) and doing the Blakroc project, Jay-Z signing The Ting Tings to his label and BeyoncĂ© possibly collaborating with indie band Of Montreal, will 2010 be the year that indie-rock and hip-hop flourish to new heights? It’ll be fun to watch.
