Vampire Weekend – California English Pt. 2
A brand new song has surfaced on the interwebs from NY prep-rockers Vampire Weekend called “California English Pt. 2″. Automatically the title makes me ask, “well where in the heck is part 1?” and the answer is the song “California English” appears on the band’s new album Contra which comes out on January 12, 2010.
As far as this song goes it’s definitely not what you would expect to hear from Vampire Weekend. The normally afro-pop sounding group takes a cue from Animal Collective with looping synths and otherworldly sounds on this b-side to their song “Cousins”. I give credit for VW trying out new sounds and new approaches to their music but I’m also glad this is a b-side. I’m pretty sure that this song won’t match up with any of the other tracks on the upcoming record.
What are your thoughts on the song? Could this be a new direction for Vampire Weekend or should they stick to making us yelp while singing along to their hits?
