We like rock music more than you. It's just the way it is…

This could probably be some of the biggest news on the planet if you’re a follower of the Big Four of Thrash: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax. It’s been announced over at Metallica’s website that, for the first time ever, all four bands will play the same stage!

The shows will take place at the Sonisphere festivals in Warsaw, Poland and Prague in the Czech Republic on June 16 and 19 in 2010. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich had this to say about the meeting of the metal titans:

Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal’s big 4 would not only still be around and more popular than ever, but will now play together for the first time…what a mindfuck! Bring it on!

Kerry King of Slayer even chimed in when he simply said, “This is fucking awesome.” which is what I’m pretty sure everyone else said when they heard the news. Scott Ian from Anthrax decided to elaborate a bit more on King’s statement:

No other four bands as influential as the four of us have ever done this. Imagine if The Beatles, Stones, The Who and Zeppelin had done shows? Or Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Motorhead? Well, I may be getting into some rarified air here but as a fan, that’s how big I feel this is.

Indeed, these shows could be some of the biggest as far as rock music is concerned. But will there be any drama between the bands and their egos? Will Dave Mustaine lash out against James Hetfield during the shows? Will Kerry King eat a member of Anthrax simply because he can? Well if there is to be any drama then the bands are not showing their hostility towards each other. It’s simply a love fest all around.

Currently the two shows are the only ones that the Big Four are playing but it was announced that more dates featuring this lineup are expected to be revealed soon. So I suggest you find a way to make it to Europe this year and get into these shows. Tickets are available through the Sonisphere website.

Dave Mustaine summed it up when he said:

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for heavy metal fans to see the four greatest heavy metal bands in American history back together on one stage. If there are any heads left at the end of this festival that haven’t banged, they don’t belong there.
