Rage Against The Machine beating X-Factor

It’s become quite an interesting holiday season on the U.K. music charts. Especially since a song that was released back in 1992 is currently number one.
A campaign started to get Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing In The Name” to be the number one song for Christmas is in full swing as there are nearly 800,000 members on the facebook page and it’s currently beating the other contender for the top position by 65,000 records. The other contender being Joe McElderry, an X-Factor (an American Idol ripoff which is a Pop Idol ripoff) contestant who released his cover of the Miley Cyrus song “The Climb”.
This has gotten so much attention that RATM guitarist Tom Morello has even gotten involved by spreading the word via his Twitter account. He even spoke recently to BBC 6 Music (via Spinner) about this rock n’ roll uprising. “I love the independent spirit of the British rock fans,” Morello said. “Your country has a great rich history of cutting-edge, exciting rebel music…a little dose of anarchy for the Christmas holidays is good for the soul.”
However, there are fears that since McElreddy’s cover song hits the stores via CD today that sales will drive him into the lead and ultimately make an X-Factor winner number one for the fifth year in a row at Christmastime. So it’s time to break with tradition that they’ve started in England.
If you live in the U.K. then buy Rage’s song. Because you don’t want your number one song at Christmas to be a Miley Cyrus cover sung by a man, do you?
