New Deftones in April 2010
They may have been down for a while but they’re certainly not out. Its been reported that Deftones are releasing their brand new album, which is still untitled, on April 27, 2010 (via Consequence of Sound).
The album is a complete overhaul from their originally planned release which was titled Eros. The band decided to scrap the entire project and start completely fresh after bassist Chi Cheng was left hospitalized due to massive injuries he suffered from a car accident. So Chino Moreno decided that Deftones needed to create something that was a “heavier, more insistent record that more accurately represented how they felt as a group.”
Chino also commented on the fact that even though the new album was done in two months, “it’s one of the best, if not the best records we’ve ever done. My favorite record is ‘Around the Fur.’ It was written and recorded in four months, which was the fastest, easiest and funnest record we’ve ever made. This record totally has that feel to it.”
Replacing Chi on bass is friend of the band Sergio Vega. As for Chi, Moreno said that he’s slowly recovering in the hospital. You can see updates on Chi as well as send donations at the website oneloveforchi.com.
