Franz Nicolay says bye-bye to The Hold Steady
You should know: I’ve left The Hold Steady. I told the band I’d be leaving in early September, played my last show with them in Minneapolis around Thanksgiving, and dotted the t’s and crossed the i’s this week. Five years seemed like a nice round number. Thanks to everyone who was a part of the experience, especially the Unified Scene, who are nice folks. I’ll see you all soon in any case.
Those were the words written by the now former keyboardist of The Hold Steady, Franz Nicolay (over at his website). It really is a shame considering he added a lot to the group but can you blame him for leaving?
With a name like Franz Nicolay and that glorious moustache of his, how could he not want to strike out on his own for good? We wish him all the best and hope he won’t rule out any surprise appearances with Craig Finn and the boys.
