Peter Gabriel – “Street Spirit (Fade Out)”

Peter Gabriel, the ex-Genesis frontman, is releasing his new album called Scratch My Back where he brings his own style to songs originally done by other artists.
Some of those artists include Bon Iver, Neil Young, David Bowie, Arcade Fire and Radiohead. The Guardian recently posted a widget where you can hear the whole album.
For his Radiohead track, Gabriel took on the amazing song “Street Spirit (Fade Out)” which some consider to be RH’s best song. While Thom Yorke sings over guitar strings and Phil Selway’s drums, Peter Gabriel takes a different approach by singing over a piano and violins.
His voice almost seems to be narrating some of the lyrics before he sings the chorus of the song. You can hear that he’s putting all he has into the vocals as his voice even cracks while trying to hit the higher notes. Auto-tune? Fuck that. This man is trying to sing from his soul.
Because Gabriel covered Radiohead on the new album, Radiohead will cover Gabriel’s song “Wallflower” from his fourth self-titled album. Go to the Guardian’s website to listen to Scratch My Back in its entirety.
