Mike Portnoy will drum on new Avenged Sevenfold record
The passing of Avenged Sevenfold drummer James “The Rev” Sullivan left many fans of the band wondering what would happen next regarding their new album. It turns out that A7X will go on with the new record and make it a fitting tribute for their fallen bandmate.
The band will have Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy playing drums on the new album. Portnoy was specifically asked to fill in since he was The Rev’s favorite drummer. The band released a statement on their website talking about the selection of Portnoy.
I want our fans to know that with Jimmy in our hearts, our journey to record has officially began. Jimmy helped leave this world an amazing gift and now it’s our job to make sure to deliver that gift to our fans.
We asked Jimmy’s all time favorite drummer Mike Portnoy to record on behalf of him. Mike said it would be an honor and without question that’s what Jim would have wanted.
Its comforting to us that someone like Mike, who is undoubtedly revered as one of the best drummers in the world, held such respect and adoration for the Rev’s abilities.
Even though it will never be the same without our brother by our side, his essence lives in our hearts and through the music he helped create. He was a legend before any of the success or any of that bullshit and we are fucking excited to lay this down for our fans, and especially for Jimmy.
Sullivan died at his home in California on December 28th. There’s a tribute video that was made for The Rev which you can see at the band’s official website.

hey there and thanks for the post – I have definately learned something new here. I did however come across a few technical difficulties with this blog, as I had to keep loading the page several times before I could get it to load properly. I wonder if your hosting is adequate for your needs? Not that I’m complaining, but slow loading times times will quite often lower your position in google and can lower your quality score when using Adwords.
