RiO! Band of the Week – Buster Blue

This week’s RiO! Band of the Week has got to be, hands down, the most different type of music ever to win a band battle. Primarily because the band promotes themselves as a western folk-swing group. Behold, from Reno, Nevada, the band known as Buster Blue.

When I first came across these guys and put them in the battle I have to admit I was a bit skeptical. I thought that they would get a few votes and that would be the end of it. But they managed to round up a ton of votes in their corner and grabbed the title fair and square. So who are these guys?

Buster Blue is a band that will make you dance. You might feel like you’re in a modern day saloon but you will move. With their barn burner “Damascus”, they incorporate a ska-swing feel to their music. I’ve never heard anything like it but I’m glad I stumbled across these guys.

Go to their Myspace page and check out their songs. They’re currently in the studio working on a new record so I’ll be looking forward to some new tracks. They are now up for the title of RiO! Band of the Month for February. Can this western folk-swing band pull off an upset and take the title for the whole month? We’ll see.
