Listen: The Dead Weather – “Die By The Drop”
The new band from the mind of Jack White, known as The Dead Weather, made quite an impact on the RiO!B last year.
Not only did they release their debut album Horehound to much praise from us but I also got to see the band in Brooklyn last summer and fell in love with singer Alison Mosshart. Plus, the album landed at #3 on our top 5 albums of 2009 list.
So it only makes me even happier to know that on May 11, the world will be privy to a second album from the Dead Weather called Sea Of Cowards.
The first single from the album, “Die By The Drop”, is expected to come out next Tuesday, March 30. But thanks to the power of the internet we can hear it right now!
The wonderful people at Some Kind Of Awesome! are streaming both songs for your listening pleasure. In my interview with Ben Blackwell from Third Man Records at SXSW (interview starts at 1:58 into the video), he said that the new record would be heavier than the first album. He wasn’t kidding.
“Die By The Drop” is a massive track that, when played live, will probably get everyone in the crowd to jump up and down in unison. It’s a song like this that gets me real excited to see what else they’ve managed to come up with for the rest of the album.
UPDATE: So the powers that be over at Warner Bros. have sent a cease and desist email to our buds at Some Kind Of Awesome! and the tracks, sadly, have been removed from their site. Goddamn record labels and their rules.
