Wilco hosting their own music festival
Every part of the country has their own music festival. The west has Coachella, the south has Bonnaroo and the midwest has Lollapalooza. But what about the east coast? With All Points West considered a goner, where’s our music festival to call our own?
The answer may come in the form of the band Wilco as they’re curating the first ever Solid Sound festival in North Adams, Massachusetts from August 13-15 (via CoS).
Wilco will be the main attraction as they’re headlining two shows. Other performances will come from the band’s side projects like The Autumn Defense and Pronto. Then there will be music provided by some of Wilco’s favorite artists.
There’s also other attractions including a “fully programmed comedy stage and many interactive installations and exhibits.” Like what, for example? Well there’s “an interactive guitar pedal exhibit with Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, a concert-poster silk screening demonstration, a drum, and percussion workshop by Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche, and workshops with guitar makers or try out the solid sound stompbox station.” Wow. So you get live music and a learning experience.
Here’s hoping that Wilco is successful in running their own festival. Will it be something that stands the test of time? I’m skeptical…but only because the east coast hasn’t had the best track record when it comes to summer festivals. BTW, Bamboozle doesn’t count because you can’t spend the night so you can’t use that argument.
