Supergrass splits up

With six albums and 17 years of being a band under their collective belt, Supergrass has decided to throw in the towel.

The U.K. group announced they were splitting up citing musical differences were the primary reason (via BBC).

“Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the years. We still love each other but, cliché notwithstanding, musical differences have led to us moving on,” the band said in a statement.

The band first formed in 1993 and released their debut album, I Should Coco, in ’94. Their last album, Diamond Hoo Har, was released in 2008 and they were working on their seventh LP before breaking up. It’s not known if the album will see a release.

The band plans on playing a series of farewell shows in the U.K. in Manchester, Glasgow and London before playing their final show in Paris on June 11th.

If you’re hoping for any new material from either lead singer/guitarist Gaz Coombes, keyboardist Rob Coombes, bassist Mick Quinn or drummer Danny Goffey, you’ll have to wait as they’ve not said anything about future releases. Recently, Gaz and Goffey put out a covers album under the name The Hot Rats. So if you’re really craving something from these boys, you have that.
