The Vatican forgives The Beatles

The Vatican is in quite a bit of hot water with covering up for pedophile priests so they’ve decided to push their publicity machine into overdrive by forgiving John Lennon and the Beatles for once claiming that they were more popular than Jesus Christ.
The Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, published an article over the weekend praising the Beatles’ music (via NY Times).
“It’s true, they took drugs; swept up by their success, they lived dissolute and uninhibited lives,” the article read. “But listening to their songs, all of this seems distant and meaningless. Their beautiful melodies, which changed forever pop music and still give us emotions, live on like precious jewels.”
I’m sure Paul and Ringo are on cloud 9 after getting that quote from the Holy See. I’m sure they’ve been waiting their whole lives to one day be able to exclaim, “The Catholic Church loves us again! Hallelujah!”
With all due respect, give me a fucking break. The Vatican is up to their pointy hats in priests that can’t stop touching little boys in their rectories and they think praising the Fab Four will take the heat off of them? How about taking care of your own problems?
The Beatles, and their fans, don’t need the pope’s forgiveness because in this day and age, in many places, the Beatles ARE more popular than Jesus Christ.
I’m not trying to bash religion but when your church is already involved in a scandal that involve the emotions of millions of Catholics around the world, keep your eyes on the prize and handle your business. Don’t deviate by giving praise to a band you’ve hated for years but now, suddenly, you’re trying to gain popularity by siding with their music. We can see right through that shit.
