Campaign to get Iron Maiden to play 2012 Summer Olympics has started

If a facebook campaign worked for Rage Against The Machine, why can’t it work for this?

A couple of people in the U.K. have started a facebook page called “1 MILLION STRONG 4 IRON MAIDEN to open the 2012 London Olympic Games!!” and it’s almost at 100,000 supporters.

The goal is simple: to get Iron Maiden, one of the biggest metal bands the U.K. has ever produced, to play at the opening ceremonies for the 2012 games which are scheduled to be held in London.

I, for one, would love to see this. The only cool part about the opening or closing ceremonies of the ’08 Beijing games was when Jimmy Page played “Whole Lotta Love”. But then the vocals were ruined by U.K. pop singer Leona Lewis (why are R&B singers trying to ruin that song?)

So if you want to be a part of the online movement to get Bruce Dickinson and the rest of the band to open the 2012 olympics, head on over to the facebook page and join. My guess is, even if they reach their goal of a million people, the British government would never let this happen. Because that would be the cool thing to do.
