Rolling Stone magazines will be available online

Rolling Stone magazine is about to go all digital on yo’ ass.

An announcement was recently made that the music magazine will put every single one of their issues ever printed online (via Beatcrave).

You’ll be able to read the stories in their entirety instead of just a few paragraphs before being directed to buy a copy of that month’s edition and album reviews will now come with clips of the music for you to check out.

But before you get too excited you should know that this won’t be a free service. A subscription fee of $3.95 a month ($22.95 for the whole year) is required for you to access Rolling Stone’s digital archives.

While it’s good to see that the magazine is fully embracing the internet, are they too late? Blogs have been doing this for years now. There isn’t a blog out there that isn’t putting out a new mp3 for you to listen to or an album review to check out. Some of the bigger sites like Pitchfork are the ones who get the big breaking news stories before the publications do.

But Steve Schwartz, chief digital officer for Wenner Media, is embracing the jump to the interwebs.

“We’re taking control of our digital destiny. This is not,’let’s rush to the Web because print isn’t strong.’ This is our brand’s ability to tap into a new medium.”

The magazine will still be put out monthly but now you have the chance to not only switch over to their digital format for new issues, but to check out those old-school back issues from long, long ago. Good to see you’ve fully embraced the web, RS. You wanna put us on your blogroll?
