Death Cab For Cutie recording new album this summer

Death Cab For Cutie, the indie-rock band who found a brand new fan base in tween Twilight fans, is heading back to the studio this summer to start work on their seventh album.

MTV News recently spoke with frontman Ben Gibbard who has plotted out what Death Cab would be up to for the rest of 2010.

“We’re going in the studio in June to start working on the record,” Gibbard said. “We’re going to be recording through the summer and into the fall… we’re probably looking for a spring 2011 release.”

Sounds good to me. But how, when a band has members living in different parts of the U.S, do they plan on recording this new album? “We all live in different cities now, but I strangely feel closer to my bandmates than I ever have before, and I think that as we move forward as a band, our only motivation is to make music that we enjoy, and to make music because it’s fun,” he said.

“We’ve had a couple of songs where (Guitarist) Chris [Walla] has sent me music, and I’ve done some arrangements and lyrics and melodies on them, and in the batch of material we’ve got sitting in the coffer ready to go on the record, that to me is the most exciting stuff,” said Gibbard. “They were a couple of tunes that he sent me that I’ve kind of finished, I’m really excited about.”

DCFC recently made bloggers crazy-go-nuts when they performed “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” and John Fogerty’s “Centerfield” at the Seattle Mariners opening day ball game. I don’t think I’ve ever heard baseball music sung as pretty.
