Interpol bassist quits band

It’s an exciting time for Interpol fans. Their new song “Lights” was unveiled on the interwebs recently and was offered up as a free download. But now the moment becomes bittersweet.
The band recently posted on their official website that bass player/Crispin Glover lookalike Carlos D will no longer be a member. According to the band, he decided to quit after they finished recording their new album.
“After the completion of the album, Carlos informed the rest of us that he would be leaving the band. He has decided to follow another path, and to pursue new goals. This separation is amicable, and we whole-heartedly wish him great happiness and success. We will remain, as always, deeply respectful fans of this blazingly talented individual.”
But, instead of simply replacing Carlos, Interpol is taking a different approach as to who will wield the bass guitar when they start touring this summer.
“We can tell you that we have some very exciting new recruits joining us on the road. So stay tuned – we will promptly be revealing the identities of these illustrious players.”
Summer shows will be announced soon at Interpol’s website. The new album still has no official release date.

[...] The revolving door of band members that is the Smashing Pumpkins rotated recently as the announcement of their new bass player was made. Billy Corgan continues to follow in the tradition of having female bass players and revealed that Nicole Fiorentino would be handling the low end of SP’s tunes. Fiorentino was previously the bassist for bands including Twilight Sleep and Light FM (via Hipsters United). She also has recorded music and played with bands Veruca Salt, Spinnerette and Radio Vago. Fiorentino has even updated her Myspace page (does she not have Facebook?) to reveal the fact that she now rolls with Corgan and crew. “Nicole is proud to announce that she is the newest member of The Smashing Pumpkins. She is keeping herself very busy these days in the studio with Billy and the rest of the pumpkins crew. She will also be performing live with band for any future tours/gigs.” I’m wondering how long this is gonna last. Hey, here’s an idea! Maybe she could also play bass for Interpol. I hear their bass player just jumped ship. [...]
