“International Day of Slayer” wanted by metal fans

Slayer fans worldwide are clamoring for the day when they can celebrate their love for thrash metal with an “Intenational Day of Slayer”.

Now it’s not unusual for a group of people who absolutely adore something to start pushing for it to become nationally recognized. Star Trek fans have been known to try and get “Vulcan” to be put on census ballots and people who vote on election day have occasionally written in their favorite cartoon character to become president. But this movement could be the loudest one thus far.

Dag Hansen was someone who got involved with this idea because he was upset with all the holidays that were nationally recognized.

“Every time a holiday came around, it was culture this or culture that,” he said. “I wanted one to reflect my culture, because in the land of malls and triplicate forms, I found more cultural value in heavy metal than any of the stuff other people called culture.”

Fast forward 20 years later and Hansen is now part of a movement that is trying to get the “International Day of Slayer” accepted as a holiday. It was originally started as the “National Day of Slayer” as a response to the U.S “National Day of Prayer” but picked up steam over the last few years and has grown to become a larger cause (via Blabbermouth).

The day is held on June 6th starting at 6 am (6/6/6…get it?) and the point of the day is to do nothing except blast Slayer music as loud as you can wherever you can in recognition of the band. If you want to be a part of the movement you can actually go to nationaldayofslayer.org to find out more.
