New Arcade Fire single coming in June

Can they or can’t they? Will they or won’t they? Could they? Should they? Would they? These were the back and forth questions that took place yesterday afternoon after reports of a new Arcade Fire single being released soon were both confirmed and denied.

But we can now absolutely confirm, thanks to Consequence of Sound, that Arcade Fire will indeed release a brand new single in June. Phew. Glad we got that taken care of.

Originally a posting found at Amazon listed a brand new single from the band called “Suburbs”/”Month Of May” to be released on June 1st. After rampant speculation as to whether this was true or not, the band’s representation released a message denying this listing and said it would be removed.

But then, just a few hours later, AF themselves released a digital postcard saying that the new single would be out in a couple of weeks.

OK, i’m all for hyping up your audience and getting us pumped for some new music but all this back and forth is really unnecessary. To sum it up best, David Greenwald, who runs the awesome rawkblog.net, wrote the following on Twitter yesterday. “I’m so sick of this kind of bullshit from bands. You’re not making The Dark Knight. Nobody cares about your gimmicks.”

I don’t think anyone could have said it better.
