R.I.P Ronnie James Dio

It sucks that I had to change the tone of this entire post from hopeful to mournful. It’s just been reported that Ronnie James Dio has indeed died due to complications from stomach cancer.

Dio’s wife and manager, Wendy, released the following statement that was obtained by Blabbermouth.

“Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45 a.m. [on Sunday] 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.”

Dio was 67 years old when he died after battling stomach cancer ever since he was diagnosed with it late last year. He was the legendary frontman for bands including Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Dio and Heaven and Hell which reunited him with Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinnie Appice.

Heaven and Hell were supposed to tour throughout Europe this summer but due to Dio’s health issues, the band had to cancel those dates.

This is definitely a huge blow to the heavy metal world. It’s recommended that you break out any records you have featuring Ronnie James Dio and turn them up to full blast in honor of the man. He will truly be missed.
