Broken Bells recording second album
The “supergroup” or “super-duo” that is Broken Bells which teams up James Mercer of The Shins and über-producer Danger Mouse will record a second album together.
Mercer recently spoke to Billboard and revealed the diabolical plot to release new music.
“We need to do another record, for sure, because we’ve got these songs we need to put out,” Mercer said. “We’ve got these songs that aren’t B-side type stuff, definitely ones we want on a record, and we enjoy this. It’s fun.
“I think [Danger Mouse] enjoys it, too,” he added. “It’s so enjoyable. It’s like a vacation – although I don’t want my wife to know that! We definitely will keep working together.”
So Mercer wants to continue working on Broken Bells material and that’s all well and good. But what about his day job with The Shins? Will we ever get to hear some new music from them?
“I think the next thing I do will be a Shins record,” he said. “I guess we’re on hiatus now, so I have to sort of allocate time to do it and still do what we have to do with [Broken Bells], but that’s made me feel excited about doing Shins stuff again.
“It’s been inspiring I want to take some of [Danger Mouse's] approach and apply it to my [Shins] work.”
Hmmm? Perhaps Danger Mouse could produce a few Shins tracks for the next LP? It did wonders for The Black Keys so maybe the light and breezy indie-rock stylings of the Northwestern band could be up next? I think we have a good idea here!

I’m so glad they’re recording a second album, especially since they got a Grammy nom. for Alternative album of the year! and if you don’t have their first album go here and get it, it’s so good http://bit.ly/hXfNai
