We like rock music more than you. It's just the way it is…

The Big Four of Thrash (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax) are coming together for the first time this summer at the Sonisphere festivals all throughout Europe this summer. It’s a huge show for anyone that’s going. But for us that can’t make the gigs, the bands have come up with a different idea. We’ll get to see them…at the movies.



Metallica’s official website (via Blabbermouth) was recently updated with the following message to all fans who really want to see this show one way or another.

“Can’t make it to Europe this June for one of the seven Sonisphere ‘Big Four’ shows featuring the ‘Tallica along with Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax? No problem . . . we’ve got the next best thing through the magic of satellite technology with a special HD simulcast from Sofia, Bulgaria on June 22!

“Here’s how it works: The live show will be transmitted via satellite to over 450 movie theaters in the U.S. and over 350 theaters across Europe, Canada, and Latin America. Within hours of all of us walking off the stage, depending on what time zone you live in, you’ll be able to rock out to each set in the cozy confines of your local movie theater that same night.”

The post goes on to say that by going to thebigfourlive.com, you’ll be able to purchase tickets to one of 350 movie theaters in the U.S, Canada or Europe that will screen the performance. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 21 in the U.S and Friday, May 28th internationally. More theaters are being added soon and screenings in Australia, South Africa and New Zealand are also expected to happen.

Tickets will be around $20 in the U.S and you won’t get to see every band’s entire set but, according to the website post, “you’ll see most of the action.”

I have to commend Metallica for coming up with this idea. It’s cool to know that they’re thinking of the fans that can’t go to Sonisphere but at the same time I’m not sure going to the movies is the best place to see a concert like this. It’s not like the theater is going to be packed with fans and everyone’s gonna go as crazy as they would at a live event. Eventually, I think I’d get bored and sneak into another theater to watch Iron Man 2 again.
