Listen: Bush – “Afterlife”

For those of you that predicted the return of Bush, then you can pat yourself on the back…wait we’re talkin about the same Bush, right? The band not a lady’s nether region covered in mass quantities of hair? OK good. Wanna make sure we’re on the same page.
ANYWAYS, Gavin Rossdale and crew ave released a new song called “Afterlife” and you should go check it out. Is it as dark as their classics like “Machinehead” or “Glycerine”? No sir but it is a catchy tune that will get stuck in your head for at least a day.
Rossdale made an appearance on KROQ in Los Angeles and announced that Bush would also be releasing a brand new album later this October called Everything Always Now. There are also rumors that they’ll be touring this fall and they’re already scheduled to appear at this year’s Epicenter festival in California. The 90′s just keep on comin’ back.
Check out the song down below and pretend it’s 1997 all over again.

awful song
June 23rd, 2010 at 12:59 pm
I need this song in me…
June 23rd, 2010 at 2:37 pm
The sound engineers compressed the hell out this song. Look at that waveform!
June 24th, 2010 at 5:03 pm
awesome song.
sooo glad Bush returned.. been hoping they would..
sounds great. not like their last 2 albums.
sounds as great as a lot of their songs off Sixteen Stone and Razorblade Suitcase.
Best Post-Grunge band ever.
Rock N Roll will never die.

June 25th, 2010 at 4:52 pm
I’m so glad about this:)Bush is an amazing band and i love them so much… I’m glad there back and moving on with new music! Not as good as the old Bush but still, it’s Bush and it Grunge!
June 25th, 2010 at 6:22 pm
I’m sorry. I was really excited about this reunion, but this sounds like Gavin’s solo stuff…which, come on, admit it, wasn’t good.
It sounds nothing like Bush. And even if I had no idea who the band or singer was, I’d dismiss it as trite pop crap.
Just got done listening to Broken TV before I heard this and the difference is cringe worthy.
If Gav is out to make a quick buck on the reunion tour circuit, I think he’ll do well, but fans will be disappointed.

When I heard that Bush was getting back together I almost crapped my pants at work, but after hearing this song I’m a little dissapointed… Where’s that growl in Gavin’s voice? Or the sick guitar riffs? This doesn’t even sound like Bush, if I had randomly heard this song on the radio, I would have listened for a couple seconds and changed the station without giving it another thought. Compare this song to Machinehead, Little Things, Come Down, Glycerine, an all those other great Sixteen Stone songs, and you’ll find that this song just falls short of that greatness I expected. It sounds too edited and cliche, come on Bush.. I really hope the rest of the album isn’t this way =/
June 27th, 2010 at 1:58 pm
This song is complete ass. It sounds nothing like the Bush of the 90s.
June 28th, 2010 at 4:50 am
C’mon guys drop the electronic bull s**t and get back to the power chords, distortion, and gavin’s growl. I appreciate the song, but this is basically Gavin’s solo crap or Institute’s music. Not BUSH!

If it’s not Nigel I don’t care. Awful, awful pop dross. Listen to this if you enjoy massive, crushing disappointment.

What a shame. I thought it was going somewhere
until the chorus. Horribly hackneyed melody that
takes you nowhere. Sorry Gav
July 3rd, 2010 at 9:02 am
I love the new song.. and I love that Bush is Back!
July 3rd, 2010 at 2:43 pm
I’m a HUGE fan of Bush’s work, especially everything after Sixteen Stone. This song doesn’t do a damned thing for me. It doesn’t even sound like Gavin until about 3:00 into the song. The closest I can compare this to prior Bush songs is “The Chemicals Between Us” but even that song rocks better than this mess. I want back the brutally poetic hodge-podge of Gavin’s lyrics coupled with the gnarling grind of Nigel’s guitars. Until the guys make this happen, this isn’t Bush to me. I’ll see them in concert if the rumors are true, but I won’t be purchasing this pop rock piece of **** album.
July 6th, 2010 at 9:59 am
Um, great. Now they sound like a suckier versio of Bloc Party. Wow, this is really not good.
July 6th, 2010 at 9:09 pm
If you had said this was a newly discovered lost tape of the Police with someone else singing rather than Sting, I might have believed you. But Bush!?!?! No way!!!!

this ALMOST sounds like bush at parts..but mostly makes me sad. and lyrics sound like they suck. and it’s too popish. I’m going back to listening to straight no chaser on my ipod.
July 10th, 2010 at 2:28 pm
I have loved these since I was 16. I am so happy they are back!
July 11th, 2010 at 2:01 pm

July 13th, 2010 at 3:18 pm
I think it was the 3rd or 4th time hearing it before it started to grow on me. It definately is not old Bush. I am not saying its a bad song, want to hear the whole album before deciding yeah or neah on this one.
July 13th, 2010 at 6:03 pm
Definitely not the same as the 90′s bush, but totally digging it! I’m so glad they’re back! (I knew they would be!)
July 15th, 2010 at 11:56 pm
This song makes me want to stab myself in the face 57 times, I have lost all hope in humanity. OMFG.
July 16th, 2010 at 6:35 am
It’s bush picking up where golden state left off. i always felt that GS was way too polished and way too listener friendly yet still had a few tracks to hold it all together.
I am hoping that Afterlife is just a bad choice for 1st single and will not seem so bad in album track listing and Album will a lot edgier and darker cos lets face it that is when Bush are best
July 16th, 2010 at 7:14 am
Love the fact they’re all as English as marmite, and yet they probably won’t set foot on our shores to tour. haha-
July 16th, 2010 at 12:36 pm
PLEASEEEE COME TO PORTUGAL BUSH!!!!!!!
YOU ARE LOVED IN WERE
July 16th, 2010 at 11:18 pm
this is fucking disgraceful. it doesn’t even sound like gavin anymore. i bet everyone who likes this song has only ever heard this song from Bush. Obviously, someone who liked their old grunge sound would hate this fucking pop shit. i swear i almost cried when i heard it, that’s how bad it is. fuck you guys.
July 17th, 2010 at 3:14 pm
I love old and New Bush. But if you dont like this then you guys prob didnt like Golden State, Science of Things or Gavin’s other Band Institute because this sounds more like those then it does Sixteen Stone or Razorblade Suitcase. I think it rocks, and i hope the album aint a flop because of all you fuckwhits saying ”oh its not the same as before!” you people are close minded. If you say”its not my cup of tea” then fair enough.
July 17th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
HELL2THaYES!!! sumthin’ 2combat all this MoistAzzAfterSchoolRock! BUSH!!!
July 19th, 2010 at 4:42 am
Pretty insignificant song, much like anything Rossdale has been doing solo and with Institute. It all sounds too American, predictable, easy-listening. Razorblade Suitcase from 1996 is in my personal Top 10 albums, but since then I totally lost interest in Bush/Rossdale, much to my regret.
July 19th, 2010 at 3:31 pm
I heard a rumor that they will have some shows with Soundgarden. Bush is F***ING AWESOME!
July 20th, 2010 at 10:10 am
Complete rubbish. I want my 90′s back.
July 20th, 2010 at 11:17 am
What a load of crap! Where are the dissonant chords blazing away in a wall of sound? Where are the lyrics that are opaque in meaning? They are not in this song. Bring in Nigel Pulseford quick to save this. If all the songs are like this, they might as well name this album, “Abortion”, as that is what it would be.
July 21st, 2010 at 3:22 pm
Way to go guy’s !! Excellent track..hope to see you soon in Chicago, IL.
July 22nd, 2010 at 7:35 am
WTF? When the did this happen?
July 24th, 2010 at 11:50 am
Oingo boingo on the outside rip off check it out I love bush but screw this junk!
July 24th, 2010 at 8:00 pm
this song is good, not as great as there songs from the 90′s, but c’mon! i don’t now why ppl are complaining. its a new generation and a whole new game field. of course its not gonna sound anything like the 90′s. i’m just glad there back and if the rumors are true about the concert then i’m f***in stoked!!! when i was 12 i always wanted to go to a bush concert and now that there back, i will die F***in Happy! BUSH ROCKS!!!CHIKA CHIKA YEA YEA BIYTCHES! p.s. check out Apocalyptica – End Of Me (featuring Gavin Rossdale) good song!
July 26th, 2010 at 5:34 pm
thats bad
i mean the song, cause its a really pop song
did gavin say:? hmmm, im loosing popularity, need BUSH back NOW.
because this song is so improvised
is not the 90s grunge that i hope
but is cool bush came back, i hope this record to be better than the last one
August 5th, 2010 at 11:00 pm
Surely this is very different from their previous stuff (which has evidently left some fans dissapointed) however there are three upshots of this:
1. They are adapting to more modern to attract new audiences.
2. They are elvoving their sound so they don’t just sound like everything else they have done and become like Nickelback.
3. Even if you aren’t a fan of this new song it is far better than anything on the radio atm.
November 5th, 2010 at 5:49 pm
I started listening to Bush back in the 90′s and as a guitarist and composer myself I’ve always thought they have been
A really good band. In my opinion each album evolved instead of being a copy of the previows one. That’s what you expect from
Any good artist, evolution. The new song has a good rythm, in terms of harmony good job as well, lyrics probably not the most
dark or abstract but they mix well with the song. Anyway I am happy to see other fans of Bush who also liked the song and are happy
for the comeback… Cheers
November 22nd, 2010 at 6:56 pm
Gavin said that Bush has always tried to evolve with each album, instead of manufacturing a copy of the last record with each subsequent one. He said that the new album is going to be different, heavier than his solo album, Wanderlust, (which was supposed to be a Bush album, incidentally, but Dave and Nigel didn’t want to tour anymore) but not as heavy as Institute. This is the new Bush. I’m glad they’re back, and I love the ’90′s as much as the next guy, that’s why I listen to Sixteen Stone and Razorblade Suitcase on my ipod. Wanderlust sounds more “easy listening” as one person put it, bc he wanted to evoke a Peter Gabriel feel. Try to listen with an open mind and give the song and the new album, Everything Always Now a chance. It should be coming out in February. Bush has been rocking all venues on their short Fall tour and once th enew album drops, tehy should have new spring tour dates announced!
March 9th, 2011 at 1:18 pm
they don’t sound the 90s songs but its ok.. they sound a little bit like 30 seconds to mars, but gavin’s voice and the rock part could be better
June 8th, 2011 at 2:40 am
Okay, so the song is alright. Kinda catchy. Very different. …but has anybody else noticed how the chorus sounds exactly like Fall Out Boy? :/
