Watch: Phish covers Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing in the Name”
When bands cover other bands during shows, it’s extremely hit or miss. In the case of Phish covering Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing in the Name,” there can only be one way to describe it: Awesome.
Not only does the jam band actually get all the hippies in the audience to jump around and almost form mosh-pits, but they also emulate RATM’s sound quite well. The guitar sounds almost similar to Tom Morello’s. The video is over nine minutes long but if you just wanna start rocking out, the song kicks in at 4:45. Watch and be in awe as jam-rock and rap-rock form some weird, insane, wonderful hybrid. Thanks to Consequence of Sound for finding this gem.

Man, you couldn’t have said it better. I was at this show and it was more than an experience. I never in my life thought that my favorite band Phish would turn me into a riotous teenager again. During the chorus I honestly thought we would riot. The insane combo of hippe love and pure violent energy was contagious. On top of that it was Fishman singing the Rage song (a Harpua standard) and that alone was enough of a paradox to make this cover momentously special. Rock on Phish.
