Listen: Serj Tankian – “Left of Center”

Serj Tankian inches closer and closer to releasing his second solo album, Imperfect Harmonies, which is in stores on September 7th.
So to try and get more hype around the album, he’s released the first single for you can download on iTunes called “Left of Center” which was also the name of my favorite station on Sirius Satellite Radio. You can listen to the song down below.
I’m not too sure about these songs though. Maybe it’s because I’m still wishing for System of a Down to get back together soon but these songs just don’t seem…what’s the word I’m looking for? They don’t seem right to me, you know? I mean, I know Serj is a kick-ass frontman who can write music well and I didn’t mind the first solo album at all. But between this song and his other new one, “Borders Are,” I really hope he just gets all these songs out of his system (relax, the pun isn’t intended) and just goes back to making the rabid, psycho metal we all loved. Am I the only one who feels like this?

I thought I was the only one who thought his solo stuff was kinda off. I think he wrote them as poems first and then turned them into songs.

Personally i’ve always liked Serj’s stuff, because he is just kinda out there, his voice is very unique, so I find that this song is really cool.

I liked ‘Borders Are’ but this I don’t really like, either way I’d love SOAD to get back together.

I always liked System of a Down, but personally I like Serj Tankian’s solo stuff a little bit better. “Empty Walls” and “Left of Center” are two of my favorite songs. Not all of his music is that great, but I like his new style. I feel like it’s a little bit more musically developed than what he did with System of a Down. System of a Down was more simplistic from an instrumental standpoint, but I guess it boils down to personal preference in the end.
