Muse were “selling their souls” on Twilight soundtracks

Muse have finally confessed as to why their music always appears on soundtracks for the Twilight movies. Its always been about exposure. Which is good because I thought they were actual fans of the films for a minute. Phew.

Speaking to BBC’s Newsbeat, bassist Chris Wolstenholme said that “sometimes you’ve just got to get your music out there in different ways” and that making it big in the U.S. is a lot more difficult because this country doesn’t have anything like the UK’s BBC Radio 1, which is a national radio station. “You have to take every opportunity you get over there and sometimes you have to sell your soul,” he added.

Speaking about their trainwreck of a song for the Eclipse OST, “Neutron Star Collision,” Wolstenholme said that he had no clue how the filmmakers would use the song in the movie. “When we were in the studio writing it, one minute they said they wanted to use it in the end credits, then they said they wanted to use it in another scene.” When filmmakers couldn’t decide what scene to use the song in, the band eventually said “Do what you want with it, we don’t care any more.’”

More songs for movies aren’t in the band’s future anytime soon. Wolstenholme said that “(singer) Matt [Bellamy]‘s been offered a few movie scores but the touring is so heavy and that would mean taking a few months off, not being able to tour.” Good to know they have their priorities in order because their live show is really something to check out.

Muse will be back on American soil later this year on September 22nd with a show in San Diego, CA and will follow that up with tour of North America. All the dates can be found at their official website.
