Watch: Avenged Sevenfold – “Nightmare”
Avenged Sevenfold are looking to make some major waves with their new album, Nightmare, which is in stores on July 27th. Up top is the official and unedited video for the first single which is also the title track. Is it just me or is A7X really trying to sound Metallica on this record?
Don’t get me wrong. I’ve liked this band for a while but for some reason it just sounds like M. Shadows is really trying to channel James Hetfield’s vocal stylings. Plus a few other songs on the album seem to follow the writing styles of older Metallica albums like Master of Puppets and Ride The Lightning. I’m not complaining, though. If you’re gonna try to sound like someone, why not try to imitate the best?
A7X is headlining the Rockstar Uproar Tour this summer along with Disturbed and Stone Sour. Plus, they have Dream Theater’s legendary drummer Mike Portnoy manning the sticks for this tour as he did on the album. Tickets and tour dates can be seen at the festival’s website.

Yes, they are trying to sound Metallica. And they’re doing it quite poorly. I named this “Avenged Sevenfold’s last chance to impress me” and it completely failed in that respect.
Plus the singer just looks like the biggest douchebag in the world.

the reason all the tracks sound similar is simply because this whole album was written by the late great jimmy “the rev”, i am more excited for this release because i get to here the last musical orchestration from what i can say could have been the most talented drummer of our time, don’t hate on them, they have had very different styles and are still continuing to evolve. as for shadows this record is the darkest lyrically due to the situation so why not steal some thunder from one of musics most badass front-men!
