My Morning Jacket recording new album

Jim James, Yim Yames, lead singer of My Morning Jacket, that dude with the beard — whatever you wanna call him — recently had a chat with Rolling Stone and revealed that the band is working on a new album for us fans.

James said that they’ve “got five songs done” and that the album will “probably be out mid-next year — probably May.” Their last album was 2008′s Evil Urges and since then, James has been on a roll with other projects including some solo work as well as Monsters of Folk with M. Ward and Conor Oberst.

The new album, according to James, is being recorded “in a church in Louisville. We’ve never made a record in Louisville before.” He added that these recording sessions are “really, really good, really wholesome. There’s something about it. We’ve done stuff mostly live but then you do some overdubs, some vocals, or whatever. But we’re trying to do everything other than maybe strings live. There’s just something old and dirty about it.”

MMJ are playing five nights of shows at NYC venue Terminal 5 where each night they’ll play one of their albums in its entirety. They’re also opening for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in late August at three shows in Massachusetts and New Jersey.
