Dublin, Ireland hates Axl Rose

I have no clue what it is about the UK/Ireland region of the world but recently there’s been an extreme love/hate relationship with Axl Rose…although it’s leaning a bit more towards hate as of now.
Dateline: Dublin, Ireland. The O2 arena is packed to the gills with drunken Irish Guns n’ Roses fans ready to get their bollocks rocked by Axl and the crew. But, like he did at Reading and Leeds, the band arrived on stage an hour and 20 minutes late.
Entertainment.ie reports that once the band got on stage at 10:20 p.m., they only played for 20 minutes before Axl addressed the crowd as they were starting to play “Welcome To The Jungle.” This was done because some of those pissed off Dubliners decided to show their frustration and sling bottles at the stage and directly at Axl. He even warned the crowd that if another bottle was thrown, they would leave. To which, another bottle was hurled at the stage after another three songs were played. Now while I think that this is a bit of a bitch move, I can also see where they’re coming from. But you went to a GnR show; did you not expect this to happen?
O2 officials went on stage to try an address an already booing crowd, claiming technical difficulties which only raised the ire of Ireland even more. At 11:10 p.m., the house lights were turned up as the majority of the crowd went home. But at 11:25, the band returned to play the rest of their set to a much smaller crowd.
Down below you can see video of the incident and the crowd’s reaction to the whole affair. I was told by fans who were in attendance that Axl was hurling quite a few obscenities about Dubliners after the show was over. I guess it’s safe to say that GnR won’t be heading back to the emerald isle anytime soon. My guess, however, is that most of the crowd went to a pub, got piss drunk, sang along to some classic GnR on the jukebox and then passed out somewhere. Ah, Ireland. I really must visit sometime soon.

Ireland’s not part of the UK. The UK is England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland only.

well that did look like a pretty good show, to be honest. axl’s still an ass though. I would have been pissed off as well if they showed up an hour and a half late.

No Jason is not a dumbass, the article insinuates that Ireland is part of The UK. He states that the UK has a problem with Axl, when the article is about an inncident that happened in Dublin, in the Republic of Ireland. If that is not what he meant, why did he even mention the UK??
September 2nd, 2010 at 1:49 am
Yeah but after what happened at the Reading/Leeds festival the rest of the UK hates him too.
I hate the excuse that “what do you expect when you go to a GNR show?”. I’m pretty sure the fans fucking expect the band to actually turn up on time and play well. I mean they pay for tickets and have to spend loads of time standing around because “its what axl does”. Its not an excuse – I can’t really believe GNR actually have fans left after the bullshit Axl has put them through. A mediocre album and hours of lost gig time – he doesn’t respect the fans at all.

Erm you come across as the most uninformed writer. I feel quite embarrassed for you.

You really should, if only to educate yourself to a point where you don’t revert to offensive stereotypes.

This is the most idiotic piece of shit i’ve ever read. Who says the irish were drunk? Generlisation??? Thats like saying all americans have low iq, and all french are smelly. “But you went to a GnR show; did you not expect this to happen?” , well axl came to ireland did he not expect this to happen. The irish have a low tolerance for self centred, narcissistic pricks. Maybe next time he should get himself out on stage at the right time or he deserves all of this and more. Who does he think he is?, his own bandmates even hate him. If i came to work and hour and half late, i would be in trouble. Does he think he’s above everyone else?,the people who paid for his concerts/music and put all that money in his bank account, are below him??
Plain and simple, this guy is a bitch with a superiority complex, and if he can’t deliver what people paid their hard earned cash for, then he should stay the fcuk outta ireland.

TO be fair, they have every right to be pissed, especially as it’s the O2 arena, the tickets are pricey as hell, you go to see gnr, probably arrived on train thus have trains to catch after the show, for GnR to come out an hour late meaning you’re probably going to miss that train, and they don’t play their full set, and wont be getting a refund, Axl needs to give up. Throw in the towel and his ego, and call it a day for GnR.

I was at that concert and it seriously was a piss-take the support group was on for over an hour and played nearly a full set …. usually a support group just plays a few of their songs to get the crowd going… but then they went off and everyone was sitting for a further 45 mins for guns and roses to come out… while sound checks where still being carried out … which to be honest should have bin sorted out before any of us had entered the building .. Fair enough groups can sumtimes be late … but to arrive an hr and a hlf late is disgraceful and not even an apology the man is an asshole … i travelled all the way from belfast to see them in dublin cuz i couldnt make it to the belfast date and was very excited … but for that to happen was a waste of money 40 pound down on a train and near 70/80 euro for a ticket plus hotel cost for what 30 mins of a concert …. and now as i heard on the radio today that refunds are not possible i am fuming … for the shitest concert ive ever been to … axl still gets paid but his fans lose out … well from last night hes definatly lost alot of his fans big time!!! Not that hes bothered at all !!!

Well I’m from England and even I’m offended by this writers attitude to the Irish. If ANY band starts their set at 10:30 mid-week they deserve to have a shower of piss. Axl Rose is an arse, and the writer of this review if you can call it that is a dick.

dude do you seriously think anybody put money in a goddamn jukebox for gnr songs after they got to the pub after that rip off. I seriously doubt anyone even played their gnr cds or mp3s that night but put money in a jukebox..that sure is cheekily insulting the Irish.
It is a rip off. Fans should have a partial refund at least. They should be legally entitled to one.
Coming that late is one thing, but the band not apologizing is the big kick in the teeth.
Then to be a prat because a few plastic bottles were thrown after you arrive that late.. is total a-hole behaviour indeed.
Any hard rock band should expect a plastic bottle or two even if they appear on time and rock the house.
Really if buying a ticket to a rock group and i was warned at the ticket desk that the band will walk off if a few bottles are thrown..i wouldn’t go ahead with the purchase because it’s far too likely to happen through the course of a proper set.
Madness.

haha i fucking love the irish you rock ALX IS A FUCKING DIRTY SELL OUT FAG
September 3rd, 2010 at 5:02 am
Yeah… Not all Irish are drunk and disorderly now, seriously ^^
But it’d be stupid to expect those stereotypes to be ignored by someone who really has no idea..
I think this is a complete disgrace.
I hope that the people attending the concert get refunded, it’s the least they deserve.

Come on? Guns and roses are always late! dont get mad fucking irish!
September 3rd, 2010 at 7:54 am
Lets face it those plastic bottles were a prelude to a riot if he had stayed. Good thinking on his part – self preservation. I’d have done the same ! Maybe he should consider setting his watch into the timezone so he knows when to arrive. The manager should maybe just do this for him.
Everyone has a late day for work or sicknote for teacher. Lets just all sit down and maybe give him another chance. Slash you’re needed back here for punctuality and band leadership. He needs to sit with Bono and the lads who can teach the Rose man about professional conduct in the Music business. Actually Bob Geldof might be a better Irishman to tell the Axl his behaviour is unacceptable.
He needs a a peer equally successful to tell him like it is.

Ireland isnt part of the UK. Northern Ireland shouldnt be part of it either. but thats besides the point, the irish had EVERY right to be pissed at the band. ten minutes off of an hour and a half waiting for a band. thats complete bullshit, absolute crap. i dont care what their history is for showing up on time, thats total neglect of the fans
September 3rd, 2010 at 3:34 pm
Its has been like this many years! the Irish should know that by now!
September 4th, 2010 at 5:01 am
Perhaps the promoters should refuse to deal with him for his next tour since refunding tickets is just a loss for them. I imagine many law suits are on the way for breaking contracts etc.
Maybe its time G N R fans should realise Axl Rose expects to be treated like spoilt brat no matter what disrespect he shows

Axl wrote Mr. Brownstone. Listen to the lyrics, he’ll never be on time for a show. Isnt his style. Get over it PC generation, he’s an 80′s rocker with an old style. Its just his way. Love it or not, you knew what you were coming to see.
September 8th, 2010 at 1:39 pm
Omen> In Mr Brownstone he says ‘We usually go on at 9′. Doesn’t warn us about this 10.30 rubbish. I was at Reading and had to endure the same hour and a half wait – all the while standing on my feet like everyone else after a long day at the festival. It’s hard not to take offence when you know the band is in the stadium but are choosing to make you wait because wasting your time makes them feel ‘superior’.
Once again no apologies – and when the power plug was pulled on them at midnight they went into a hissy fit and started throwing mic stands and all sorts around.
I was really a GNR fan beforehand but respected them for the songs they wrote in the good old days. Now I loathe them – but mostly Axl.

Not all Irish people get drunk and pass out on a night out. Thats like saying all Americans are dumb or all French people are rude…its borderline racist and extremely offensive!I personally agree with the crowd, if it had been me I would have been every bit as pissed off as they were. I don’t care who you are, an hour and a half late for a gig which people have paid tickets to see is unacceptable…especially from a guy that has been utterly irrelevant for the last twenty years, he should be cherishing the few fans he has left!

axl rose deserves to have this shit, i saw them at leeds (until i left coz it was embarressing) they came on 30 mins late (not bad for axl but when you’ve had 5 days of near constant drinking ur gonan be pissed off) needless to say many were disappointed, even by the performance they put on (the main headliners of the festival should be the best) anyway, by the time i left the crowd was tiny, i reckon there was about the same amount of ppl at the tiny tent where marina and the diamonds were, and LCD soundsystem tent was pretty full, but i reckon a lot of ppl just decided to head on home. axl finished off a rather less than mediokre festival but he is an ass
so yeah, thats why the writer was refering to the uk/irish area
January 29th, 2011 at 10:35 pm
fuck! is guns n roses idiots! that’s how axl is, what do you think? that he would break his tradition of been late in the day that youre going to watch his show? fucking fuck! so why did those people go to the show? i think they don’t know pretty well about what is the guns n roses and all that shit
